ABSTRACT

The effect of the spring mounting cushion inserted in between a vibratory machine base and its rigid circular footing subjected to steady state vertical harmonic loading has been examined by extending the theory of the foundation excitation on an elastic half space. The solution has been provided in this article which can be used both for the rotating mass type and constant force type machine excitations. The calculations, however, were exclusively performed only for the rotating mass type excitation. The inclusion of the spring mounting cushion offers an extensive reduction in the displacement amplitudes of the footing. A decrease in the stiffness of the springs causes an appreciable reduction in the displacement amplitudes of the footing as well as the machine base.
