Dr. Jyant Kumar is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has published more than about 33 International and National Journal papers in the area of Geotechnical Engineering. His publications include following journals: Geotechnique, Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering (ASCE), Canadian Geotechnical Engineering , International Journal of Geomechanics (ASCE), International Journal of Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Soils and Foundations, Indian Geotechnical Journal, Electronic Journal of Geotechnical Engineering and Indian Road Congress Journal.

Dr. Kumar works in the area of (i) Application of Method of Stress Characteristics and Upper Bound Limit analysis to various Stability Problems in Geotechnical Engineering, (ii) Application of Finite Elements, (iii) Seismic Response of Ground, and (iv) Determination of Dynamic properties of Soils using Block Vibration and Resonant Column Apparatus. His current interest also includes An Examination of the effect of Stress Level on the Frictional and Dilatancy angles of soils.

Dr. Kumar has guided independently a number of research students. He has been teaching the following courses at Post-Graduate Level (i) Soil Dynamics, (ii) Plastic Equilibrium in Soils, and (iii) Earth and Earth Retaining Structures.

Dr. Kumar has reviewed a number journal papers for various professional journals.
