Dr. Sudip Basak was born in 1971 at Calcutta, India. He passed B.E. (Civil Engineering) in 1994 from University of Calcutta and M.C.E. (Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering) in 1996 from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. Then he started carrying out research, funded by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Government of India and was awarded Ph.D. (Engineering) by Jadavpur University in the year of 2000. The topic of his Ph.D. work was 'Pile under Lateral Cyclic Load in Marine Clay'.

Thereafter, Dr. Basak initially started working in industry (design), but soon (2002) shifted as a Lecturer in the Department of Applied Mechanics, Bengal Engineering College (Deemed University), Howrah, India, where he is presently working. Dr. Basak published more than 25 papers at national and international levels and obtained several awards and recognitions for his academic excellence. He has guided three M.E. theses and one Ph.D. thesis. The areas in which Dr. Basak is presently working are Pile-soil interaction, foundations under cyclic and dynamic loads, ground water hydraulics & hydrology, mechanics of solids, theory of elasticity & plasticity, among others.
