TECHNICAL NOTE A Semi-automatic Displacement Recorder by Türker Mirata

Türker Mirata is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. He specializes in developing simple techniques for the measurement of the shear strength of unsaturated clays and gravels. He teaches Soil Mechanics, Earth Structures, and Measurement of Soil Properties. He has recently updated a 170-page manual on the different versions of the wedge shear test to which he has devoted the greater part of his research activities. He has published over 42 technical papers and discussions, 17 in international journals and conference proceedings. He was responsible for the preparation of the first Turkish standards for the classification, laboratory testing, boring and sampling of soils. He has supervised 36 M.Sc theses, and acted as the administrator of the Soil Mechanics Laboratory of METU for a total period of seven years.
